Yuki Kawamura releases “Magic,” a psychedelic chill-out track inspired by the Second Summer of Love, in collaboration with COLOR FILTER.

Yuki Kawamura, a DJ/writer/producer, will release her new song “Magic” (OIRAN MUSIC) on April 9th through various subscription services.

Yuki Kawamura is known for performing at festivals such as “Ringo Music Festival” and “Love Parade Mexico,” selecting BGM for the Shibuya Ward Office building, providing music for the open-world RPG “Cyberpunk 2077,” and managing the warm-up bar “Shibuya Oiran.”

After a hiatus of about 20 years, Kawamura resumed her music production activities under her own name during the COVID-19 pandemic. She released “R.I.P. Sunset,” a tribute to the late Jose Padilla, her Balearic style DJ mentor and Ibiza legend. Since then, she has steadily expanded her activities as an artist, releasing remix versions by up-and-coming creators such as Amps from TREKKIE TRAX, KH&The LASTTRAK, and House Violence, and participating as a remixer in Square Enix’s popular title “NieR Re[in]carnation Chillout Arrangement Tracks.”

This new work, “Magic,” is a psychedelic chill-out track in collaboration with the unit “COLOR FILTER,” with whom she has a long-standing friendship. The song was spontaneously born out of conversations with member Tsuneyoshi Ryuji about the Second Summer of Love and Sabres of Paradise. Amy Gray participated in the translation and reading of the lyrics written by Yuki Kawamura. Member Minami Taga was in charge of the voice and artwork at the beginning, creating a colorful finish.

COLOR FILTER started as a unit led by Tsuneyoshi Ryuji, debuting in the United States and subsequently releasing numerous works primarily focused on overseas audiences. The Flaming Lips highly praised their sound as an embodiment of their own psychedelia. In 2002, they performed at SXSW. Their sound can be described as mellow psychedelia encompassing ambient, shoegazer, breakbeats, and techno elements, and it secretly anticipated genres like “Dream Pop,” which has now gained recognition. This unique presence was ahead of its time here in Tokyo. Once again, in 2023, their sound deserves to be “rediscovered.” They are making a fresh start with new vocalist MINAMI TAGA.
